Unesco Creative City of Design

In November 2010, Saint-Étienne joined the Unesco network of creative design cities, becoming the first French city in the field of design to do so. Thanks to concrete initiatives such as the creation of the Cité du design and the International Design Biennial, Saint-Étienne has embraced design as an agent of urban transformation and a lever for economic development, positioning itself as a laboratory for French design, a city of innovation, sustainability and solidarity.

Above all, design is a way of thinking, imagining and creating. Experience it in France’s only creative design city recognized by UNESCO.
For the record, we don’t have a design museum in Saint-Etienne, but rather a Cité du design.

Once you’ve arrived in Saint-Etienne, to make your life easier and to inspire you, we’ve created the https://www.stephanois-hors-cadre.fr/ website just for you. Once you’re there, you can consult the site on your mobile, thanks to geolocation and a clever algorithm, the search engine will respond according to what you want, where you are and the time of day. No more suggestions for places that are closed when you’re ready to go.

What’s more, and this is really useful, this calculation includes the duration of an activity and transport time in the suggested answers! What does this mean in practice? If you need 1.5 hours (activity and transport) and the site closes at 5.30 p.m., then after 4.10 p.m. the suggestion will no longer be displayed.
No more frustration when you have to go somewhere and can’t do the activity you want because you don’t have enough time.

For example, if you’re a fan of design, design lists what’s on offer. The refine your search option lets you filter the results according to your preferences. For example, for design you can choose: Architecture, Design stores and boutiques, Temporary exhibitions, conferences, events, Museums and tourist sites, Trails and SAFIR, Parks and gardens.
A dozen desires, such as Have a drink, Keep the kids busy, will help you discover the destination.
An itinerary, the city tour, to be done in order or disorder, invites you to take a creative design stroll to suit your free time and design desires.

The icing on the cake is if you’ve fallen in love with a restaurant, a guided tour, an activity… you can share your “secret” so that future users can read it and be inspired by your experience.
And don’t forget to use stéphanois hors cadre once you’re there!
