Parc de Solaure
42000 Saint-Etienne
Description
Need some time out to catch your breath, right now?
Without taking your car, or driving for miles, just head to the Parc de Solaure. It's just nearby. It's big. It's pretty. It's all green and it makes you feel good.
In the midst of all this urban-ness, the Parc de Solaure and its 3 hectares thumb their nose at the ambient greyness.
And have been doing for 150 years. The last rampart against the concrete invasion.
An intractable, salutary interlude. And I hope our great architects won't take umbrage, but in spite of their fine buildings and edifices, it is still the 47 m tall giant sequoia that you can see from miles away.
It's true that the old bourgeois residence still has a certain elegance, but it claims nothing more than being able to offer passers-by a shot of oxygen. A nice job in the end.
And a reminder that we urgently need put nature (back) at the centre of our lives and therefore in our cities. Not just because it's pretty, but because it's a vital need. To breathe better, to clear our minds, to meet people. The idea must be taking hold because now each of the city's 50 parks is now part of an overall enhancement and promotion scheme. A green city with a green and open heart.
